GAME OF THRONES: SEASON 7 WILL HAVE A ‘LOT OF CHARACTERS COMING TOGETHER’
Game of Thrones is getting ever closer to the end with the upcoming premiere of Season 7, as the hit HBO fantasy series is expected to conclude with the not-yet-greenlit Season 8. As Thrones ties its storylines together in its shortened final seasons, Liam Cunningham promises you’ll see a lot of your favorite characters meeting for the first time.
IGN spoke to Cunningham, who plays Davos Seaworth, and his co-star Jacob Anderson, who plays Grey Worm, while they were promoting the upcoming Game of Thrones Live Concert Tour Experience during a preview event in Los Angeles. While both were sworn to relative secrecy about what specifically will happen in Season 7, they did offer some solid teases of what we can expect.
“The progress of the show with the White Walkers and all that stuff, it’s pretty obvious nobody’s going to be able to take this force on on their own,” said Cunningham. “So when we’ve had all these, for all these seasons, disparate stories come from disparate ends of Westeros, it has been – and it’s been signaled from the end of last season – that there’s a lot of people and situations going to be coming together. It was kind of interesting to meet some people who I normally only meet on a red carpet. Who that is and when that happens remains to be seen.”
Even though Season 7 has a shorter episode count than any previous Game of Thrones season, it took just as long to shoot these seven episodes because of their intensive production schedule. Anderson said filming this season was “even more [tough]” than previous years, noting he’s “surprised that they’re even able to fit in what they’re even fitting in.”
“I’m just excited for people to see everything at the end of the last season plays out,” he teased.
Cunningham has been hearing “bizarre theories” about Game of Thrones for years from people who think they have puzzled out all of the story’s deepest, darkest secrets. While some he thinks are too wild to be true — including one where someone suggested Davos and Melisandre are going to settle down together and have children — there is one popular theory he thinks fans have gotten right.
“For a couple of years I’ve been hearing a theory that I think may be right, but I don’t want to go into it because it might be a spoiler, but I think they’ve worked it out. It’ll become pretty obvious soon-ish. I have to be very delicate with all of this,” Cunningham said. But with Season 7 largely wrapped, know that plenty more theories have been very, very wrong. “To listen to these theories for this season, you just have to try to keep your face straight, and sometimes it’s so ludicrous that I just burst out laughing.”
